About the author

Bernard Marks is a Melbourne based lawyer whose practice is restricted to advising on complex federal tax issues and tax audits. He holds the LL.B (Hons) degree from the University of Sydney and post-graduate law degrees from the University of Illinois and the University of Washington. He has been a Fulbright Scholar and a Ford Foundation Comparative Law Fellow and has held academic positions in Australia, Canada and the United States. He is a long time and active member of the Law Institute of Victoria Taxation and Revenue Committee.

He has practiced as tax counsel to a then “Big 8” chartered accounting firm, a large bank and a major insurance group, and advised governments -- federal, state and foreign -- on tax law. His clients have included the Australian Taxation Office and the New Zealand Inland Revenue, and numerous Australian and overseas corporate and high wealth family groups.

He has published numerous books and articles on taxation law. His first publication for the Taxation Institute of Australia was in 1975.
